The Shaker Nightstand
This shaker-style end table is an excellent illustration of the beauty of precision joinery. While simple in appearance, the construction of this piece shows a level of creativity not seen by the naked eye.
The base comprises four mortise and tenon tapered legs housing a hand-cut dovetail drawer. The drawer is a combination of half-lapped and through dovetails with a slotted groove that allows the bottom panel to be removed. The top and drawer front are solid walnut cut from the same board to ensure perfect color matching. The finish is a French polish comprising 30 coats of platina shellac, creating an even semi-gloss shine.
